Today has been Open Gardens in our village, so the whole of the place has been really spruced up for the event and everywhere looks lovely. As I live a good mile out of the village I never take part but as I always go out with friends for Sunday lunch I drove through the village at mid-day and it was heaving with people - a good sign for village funds.
My son and his wife always open their garden and I had a tour round that last night. It is on several levels, which is always an asset I think. There is also a little pond with a tiny trickling waterfall - a lovely feature.
There is a scarecrow competition too and there were various ones scattered about the place - some of them very good indeed.
Sundays are perhaps the worst days of the whole week when one lives alone - but the four of us friends have now been out to lunch for about the last eight Sundays and it takes up a large part of the day with eating, laughter and chatting with other regulars. Can't be a bad thing.
Back to doing a few boxes packed tomorrow. I am nearing the end of things which can really be packed in advance. Once I have a moving date then I can really advance quickly (I hope).

Perhaps you can show us some pictures of your son's lovely garden when you have the chance... I'd love to see it... I'm so glad you and your friends get together Pat... that is one thing i'am severely lacking in.... friends.. My husband is my best friend and i think he would be sorely missed everyday of the week..... I plan on sitting down and writing you a letter today Pat.... so stay tuned Hugs! deb
When I am home alone for long periods I really miss my hubby, I am not used to being alone. It seems unpleasant and depressing at times. I am glad you friends meet for Sunday lunch.
When we are down, good friends will come to our side. In the past few years, three of my dear friends have moved away to be near their families. Although we keep in touch,I miss their presence and fear more will also leave.
Love to visit other people's gardens and see what they've done with them.
One box at a time is the way.
cheers, parsnip and thehamish
Blimey Pat, are your solicitors trying to set some kind of record for hanging out a house sale/exchange of contract.
The process of the sale of a farm can take a long time. Add a matter of probate into the mix and it will take even longer. In my experience Derek Faulkner this is not unusual.
It is good that you all go out to lunch on Sundays. The ups and downs of grief is a burden but it will get better, and you have many good friends both in blogland and around you to help.
I bow to your experience Rachel Phillips.
I love village open gardens - they seem to bring everyone together and even embrace the 'outsiders'. Lovely that you and your friends have Sunday lunches out together and I hope you have a completion date soon. I find the waiting hard and feel I am in limbo. We will have a race to see who hears first, but I think you will be the winner.
Heather - I wouldn't bank on it.
Rachel - I am sure you are right and I take comfort in your words.
Debs - I am so ashamed that I have not written - I know it is my turn, but I do look forward to receiving one from you.
Your son's garden sounds beautiful. X
I'd love to see pictures of his garden as well. I enjoy seeing what other people do with their gardens - I always get such good ideas, but then get back home and think, no, too much work! When we were in England last summer, I couldn't get over some of the gardens! I don't know how people get roses to grow in such tiny pieces of soil! -Jenn
You have done in fact wonderful work by make such a great blog keep up the good work.
